About Mauritius for expats

Mauritius uses the rupee (MUR) and a July–June income year. For 2026/27, ordinary resident employees pay no income tax on the first Rs 500,000 of chargeable income, then 10% on the next Rs 500,000, 20% up to Rs 12 million and 35% above that. The Fair Share Contribution no longer applies from July 2026.

These figures are for an ordinary employee with an evenly paid basic salary. Foreign-source income, remittances and Premium Visa rules can produce a different result and are not modelled here.

Salary & income

Enter annual basic salary, assuming twelve equal monthly payments. At Rs 50,000 or less per month, employee CSG is 1.5% of basic pay; above that threshold, 3% applies to the entire monthly basic salary. Employee NSF is 1% on basic pay up to Rs 29,710 per month (the ceiling in effect from July 2026). CSG and NSF are personal deductions but do not reduce chargeable income in this estimate.

The salary reference annualises a 2025 median monthly income from employment of Rs 28,000 reported by the Mauritian pension reform commission, quoting CMPHS. It is not a directly measured annual median or a guarantee of earnings.

Eligible resident taxpayers can claim dependant deductions from chargeable income: Rs 110,000, 190,000, 275,000 or 355,000 for one, two, three or four-plus qualifying dependants. A dependant's income and family relationship affect eligibility, and spouses cannot both claim the same relief.

Key things to know

The WHO UHC national service-coverage measure is not a guarantee of personal health insurance, appointment times or local availability.

The employee calculator excludes the employer-only CSG, NSF and training levy from take-home; these are included in employer cost. The PRGF, which may apply when an employer does not provide a qualifying private pension, is not included.

The World Bank price-level index is a national comparison, not a quote for a particular city. The World Happiness Report 2024 and the 1991–2020 World Bank CCKP climate normal are provided for context, not added to the score.
